We have structured our full program for 4 Year-Olds to Second Graders to be a comprehensive foundational base for primary students to develop the necessary connections, academics, and social skills in order to make them successful and confident students for the future of their education and their lives.

We believe that completing WHPS programming through second grade provides students with the strongest foundation as learners and humans, but we also recognize and respect that families may decide to attend Windsor Hill for any single grade level at any time to support their child’s education and provide a personalized, hands-on, 3-dimensional environment for their learning and lives. We welcome all students and families for as long as they feel is needed at Windsor Hill to bridge their schooling experience into a larger system and setting..

A “readiness” program for children who are refining preschool skills such as emotional regulation, social, and foundational skills, while developing independence that promotes success in modern day kindergarten. Our 4-year old program is a play-based learning environment that introduces children to basic learning structures to enhance their preschool experience and act as a bridge to a larger school setting.

Children can enter the 4 YO program at Windsor Hill as a first or second-year preschooler. This program is designed to support the preschool child with experiences in both small groups with same-age peers and multi-age groupings each day. As highly experienced early childhood teachers we pride ourselves in understanding the type of preparation that is needed for children to “get ready for kindergarten” and can consult with parents regarding their individual child’s profile as it relates to readiness for school settings.
Year 1 Kindergarten
K1Age 5 by October 15th of enrollment year.

For families who want, or are considering, a developmental kindergarten year for their child. Year 1 provides an appropriate learning environment for the curious 5-year-old brain and focuses on exploring curiosities, learning basic school structures, fostering appropriate interactions with peers, and developing foundational academic skills while still having a lot of time to play and learn in less structured academic ways.

The Year 1 Kindergarten program is designed to support younger students who will continue to a second year of kindergarten with us or in public school. We believe foundations for learning are strengthened by time and lessons in social emotional development and the creation of positive mindsets and self-image for learning. The decision to have a child participate in a developmental kindergarten program often coincides with children who are chronologically young for their class or simply would benefit from more time before school raises academic expectations in a formal way. Year 1 Kindergarten at WHPS can continue to K2 with us at Windsor Hill, enter kindergarten in their local public school, or in an alternate school choice made by families.

If families are uncertain as to the best placement for their child after K1, we will advise and support parents by drawing on our extensive knowledge and experience in kindergarten readiness and what to expect in various environments related to expectations for their child’s learning and structures.
Year 2 Kindergarten
K2Age 5 by October 15th of enrollment year.

For children who are ready to access, and families who want to complete, a
full kindergarten curriculum including academic expectations that align with public school programming. Year 2 Kindergarten students will be instructed in State of Maine Kindergarten Learning Standards and develop their abilities to function in learning groups and within school structures, but exists as a choice for families who desire that their child complete kindergarten in a small setting with a balanced approach to the school day in relation to play, exploration, and direct instruction.

Year 2 Kindergarten provides the opportunity to learn with small group instruction in grade level academics and time to explore various subject areas such as STEM education, science, social studies, and the arts. We believe in developing social emotional learning and growth mindsets for learning alongside core academic curriculum. Year 2 Kindergarten at WHPS can continue to Grade 1 at Windsor Hill, or enter first grade in their local public school or an alternate school choice made by families.
